Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (An unexpected network error occurred. ). Group Policy processing aborted

Every 5 minutes or so this process kicks in. I'm not sure exactly what it does, it seems that it tries to replicate active directory settings...

Browsing through posts most people think it is related to firewalls and dns settings.
Although it could be, if you are getting this error in your domain controller don't even worry about dns and firewall settings. The process is failing to connect to the computer it is running on!

This seems to happen on computers with AMD processors, in my case AMD 64. Something related with the drivers you can read more here.

Anyway to make sure this is the case ping the computer if you get negative numbers for the statistics, there it is!

To fix it edit the boot.ini file by adding "/usepmtimer". After a restart the error is gone for good.
